“I hope you learn the difference between a connection and a relationship.”

In this journey we call life, we encounter numerous individuals who play various roles – friends, lovers, and community members. Understanding the dynamics between connection and relationship is crucial for building meaningful connections with others. Let's explore these concepts and learn how embracing authenticity can shape our interactions.

Defining Connection:

Connection is the initial link between individuals that may be based on shared interests, experiences, or values. It's the bridge that brings people together on a surface level, forming the foundation for potential relationships.

Examples of Connection:

  • Shared Hobbies help to bond over common interests like a love for hiking, painting, or gaming.

  • Workplace Bonds include colleagues connecting through shared professional goals and experiences.

  • Social Media Networks reflect connecting with others online through platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Hopefully you have curated a timeline that encourages your current goals and interests. If not, what’s stopping you?

  • Geographic Proximity happens when forming connections with neighbors or community members due to living in the same area.

  • Mutual Acquaintances are those you meet through friends and forming connections based on shared social circles.

Defining Relationship:

Relationships go beyond mere connections; they involve a deeper, more intimate connection characterized by mutual commitment, trust, and emotional investment. Relationships require time, effort, and a willingness to be vulnerable. Stop saying “I don’t own anybody anything / they don’t owe me anything.” Because yes you do. As an adult, basic human decency is a requirement. I know it’s hard to tell these days but do you want to be a part of the problem or the solution?

Examples of Relationship:

  • Romantic Partnerships where people sharing a deep emotional and physical bond built on love and commitment.

  • Family Ties are the strong connections within families, bound by blood and shared experiences.

  • Close Friendships are those bonds with friends who know you intimately, offering support and understanding.

  • Mentor-Mentee Dynamics would describe relationships built on guidance, trust, and shared aspirations.

  • Community Engagement is active involvement in the community you live and work in — contributing time and effort to foster deeper connections with others who live and work there.

Embracing Authenticity:

To align with real friends, lovers, and community, authenticity is key. Consistently sharing your truth with pride allows you to attract those who resonate with your genuine self. It's important to understand that not every connection will evolve into a relationship, and that's perfectly fine. Your authentic self will naturally draw the right people into your life.

Those who stick around and encourage you on your journey are the ones meant to be part of your life. They appreciate your authenticity and contribute positively to your growth. On the flip side, those who choose to depart weren't necessarily meant for a deeper connection. It's a natural filtering process that allows you to focus on nurturing relationships that truly matter.

Remember, being your most authentic self is a journey, not a destination. As you navigate the realms of connection and relationship, cherish the bonds that align with your true essence, and watch your relationships flourish.
